In advance of award winning poet and essayist Ross Gay’s residency at Lafayette the week of October 20, Marilyn Shoemaker Hazelton will host a writing response inspired by his newest book, The Book of Delights.

This event will prepare participants to be enriched and delighted by Ross Gay’s reading on October 23. Participants will be invited to write about and share what in their daily lives delights them, sparked by Ross’s essays in which he chronicles his own delights from seemingly routine encounters and beautiful and not-so-beautiful moments. Those interested in this experience are invited to begin noticing what delights them.

MARILYN SHOEMAKER HAZELTON edits red lights, an international tanka journal, and is a past President of the Tanka Society of America. As a teaching artist she approaches writing as a path for empathy, understanding, and awareness. She is a recipient of the Allentown Arts Commission’s Arts Ovation Award. Her poetry and essays have appeared in diverse publications.

No background in poetry or essays is needed to participate. This writing experience is free and open to the public.

Free for all! No tickets required.
