Ryan Holmberg, freelance art historian and critic, editor and translator of manga, will discuss the influence of Tsuikoka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892) and other Ukiyo-e artists on contemporary manga, including the work of Hirata Hiroshi, Bonten Taro, Shinohara Ushio, and Hayashi Seiichi.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi: Japanese Prints from the Taubman Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection, on view at the Williams Center Gallery through December 15.
